I didn't expect that a 4-week summer camp would allow me to find my way of expression, in the process of which I was able to gain a deeper understanding of myself. “Living in Xiamen City, I had very little access to theatre. I tried to study acting for China's national art college entrance exam and was heavily judged. Birdie's summer camp was very refreshing. It gave me a taste of different approaches to actor training and ways of making theatre. Adapting Brecht's Children and Mother Courage with the cohort reminded me of my own family trauma and how mob hysteria similarly manifests in wars today and in history. I am more determined that theatre is exactly what I want to do."
