Summer Intensive Camp

Birdie Summer Intensive is a 4-week program devoted to contemporary theatre- & performance-making. Apart from an emphasis on inclusive collaborative practice, we provide one-on-one mentorship in four specialized tracks: Playwriting & Directing, Acting, Scenography Design, and Stage & Production Management. These tracks allow participants to explore their interested roles through hands-on experience in professional theatre productions and help them build strong portfolios for further development.

By the end of the camp, students will complete 1+N original productions, including an ensemble devised piece and multiple individual projects, culminating in a public performance showcase at a professional theatre (go to Productions for more). In the past 4 years, we have produced 17 original projects ranging across the wide spectrum of "what-is-theatre", including New Writing, Physical Theatre, Documentary Theatre, environmental theatre, immersive performance, audience-participatory performance and many more. Continuing to partner with Shanghai YOUNG Theatre, we provide production opportunities, technical internships and public engagement programs, making it an ideal gateway to theatre studies and careers.
